The Former Dutch Prime Minister Voluntarily Died With His Wife

70 years of married life ended together.  Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dries van Aght and his wife, Eugenie, willingly accepted death hand in hand.

Last Monday, Driss-Eugini reportedly opted for legal euthanasia.  Both were 93 years old.  For a long time they were suffering from various problems related to old age.  Driss was the leader of a human rights organization.  A statement has been released on their behalf that the two have chosen the path of self-inflicted death in the village house, not a 'special clinic'.

Driss-Eugini were holding each other's hands even at the time of death, the statement said.  At the same time they died by poison injection.

Incidentally, Dries was the Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1977 to 1982.  He was also the founding leader of the 'Christian Democratic Appeal Party'.  The mortality rate is increasing in the Netherlands.  Last year, 29 couples voluntarily died in that country with official permission.
